Anne

Anne Maningas (b. 1988, London, England) is a self-taught photographer, specialising in the analogue process, with her current practice being focused on film photography.

Anne is inspired by the concept of 'beauty in the every day' and she actively looks to find detail in the mundane; the subtle nature of which she feels is better demonstrated (in today's world of endless scrolling) with the use of analogue photographic equipment that is wholly reliant on being fully tactile with its operation.

Recurring themes in Anne's work have been a consequence of both the observation and use of public transportation; the perpetual state of journeying and transit, whether in the physical or conceptual space.

Anne currently resides with her husband (and far too many vintage cameras) in Brentford, West London.

Why use film?

The 'analogue aesthetic', which has made a revival in recent years alongside the nostalgic feelings and personal connections invoked by other analogue mediums (such as music on vinyl), is something Anne hopes to emulate in her unobtrusive style of storytelling.

In recent times, it is the corresponding journey between the physical use of a vintage object - the film camera - to document the story or  journey put before it, coupled with the slower process that comes with film processing in the lab to produce a final image.

Anne is inspired by the work of Bob Mazzer and Mike Goldwater, whose works preserve London's visual heritage space. She is also inspired the equivalent contemporary photography in recent times of Harry F Conway and Shane Taylor.
