2019: Travel Update by 3.1

2019 has been a big year for travel (and, unfortunately, my carbon footprint), but much has happened and there has been plenty reason to travel. My App in the Air and TripIt accounts have never seen so much action.

Short of going to the moon, there is still plenty left to do for 2019. So here’s a heads up (so that the Internet creep(s)/weeb(s) can get out of my way):

Completed

  • 🇦🇺 December 2018/January 2019
Patch and I saw in the New Year in Melbourne, before heading off to Sydney, with the Australian cricket season shipping him out to work there and his firm also paying for me to head out there for a few weeks.

  • 🇪🇸 July 2019
We spent the weekend over in Madrid to see Muse play a gig and just to get a change of scenery/city (Patch used to live here for a short while and is fairly fluent in Spanish, which was a double-plus-plus, as it meant the difference between waiting in a 40-minute queue at the passport control… or asking in perfect Spanish for a shorter queue for EU citizens and being fast-tracked to some well-hidden ePassport gates). Some sort of write-up to follow at some point (she says).

Upcoming

  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 This Month
Patch and I will be visiting Scotland very soon with his family for the Fringe Festival, where we will be taking the Caledonian Sleeper up to Inverness and then going cross-country to spend a few days in Edinburgh, before I fly back home to London.

  • 🇰🇷 Mid-September
Visiting Patch’s brother (and fiancée!) in Seoul, South Korea for a few days in mid-September. I’ve never been before so I’m very excited.

  • 🇯🇵 Setember/October
A week in Japan, mostly in Kyōto and near Fujisan (and with a plan to go halfway up the mountain). Also a chance to see where 2-year’s worth of Japanese language study at university has got me (if anywhere!) and a chance to get back in the groove with the language expsoure before returning to university in October.

  • 🇦🇺 Late-December/New Year
It’s likely that Patch will be required to work again in Australia over the festive period as it’s the only way he can fit it around university, which will likely mean a stint in Melbourne again at the very least. My leave for this period has already been approved however, so if he gets a call for the cricket, then I’ll most likely be going with.

  • 🇧🇪 🇩🇪 🇮🇪 Possible bonus trips into Europe, time/schedule dependent!
